British Citizenship/ Naturalisation - Long Delay - Advice Needed

Post by Naseer » Sat Oct 26, 2024 6:57 pm

Hi,
I would really appreciate if someone, moderators please, could advise me regarding my query.
My wife and two children applied for British naturalization on 18.09.2021 after completing one year and two months on ILR.
We have not yet received any decision on their application. We contacted the Home Office twice via emails and once via phone call. All they said was that they are still busy in checks and that applications are taking time.
It has been now 2 years and 2 months. We are worried.
Please guide us what to do and what is this taking so long.
Kind regards
Naseer

consult this guide https://www.immigrationboards.com/month ... 43483.html and write to the undersecretary for migration https://members.parliament.uk/member/4253/contact
Thank you very much for your information. Could I please just ask one more thing it that is okay? Is it possible that the Home Office has has lost our naturalisation application? I know it is online but are there any chances of losing the application? As it is more than two years now, sometimes this thought comes to my mind. And if they have lost it, what happens in that case. We have waited for far too long and have paid a huge fee as well.
I would really appreciate your reply.
Regards
Naseer.

It looks like your application got lost. They are required by law to process your application within 6 months of applying, unless there are special circumstances in which case they must inform you of the delay.

You are now well within your rights to lodge an official complaint. You can do this by emailing your complaint to complaints@homeoffice.gov.uk; I also suggest to add the following recipients in email copy: nationalitysupportteamfmt@homeoffice.gov.uk, nationalityenquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk, and citizenship.support@homeoffice.gov.uk.

Note the 6 months is an “aspiration “ not a legally enforceable target as suggested.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
Please do not send me private messages asking for advice.

Citizenship help

Post by Naseer » Wed Jun 11, 2025 7:50 pm

Hi,
Could I please request some guidance in an issue which has been troubling us for more than 2.5 years?
My wife and two children applied for thier naturalisation application bo become British citizens on 22.08.2022. Since then we have been waiting for decision but it has not yet arrived. Then on this forum, I was advised to write to the Home Secretery and contact my MP .We did that. The Home Office sent the same automated replies to the MP as well that they are making enquiries.
Now we received an email from Home Office asking us to submit biometrics within 45 working days. We did that via UKVCAS IDV app and submitted everything that was required, including biometrics. My questions are:
1. Why are they asking to submit biometrics after more than 2.5 years of waiting?
2. If we have to do biometrics again, how do we do that? The reason for this is that UKVCAS IDV app does not allow us to login now and we submitted application online, paid the full fee including biometrics fee?
We wrote to them some time ago that we completed all the steps but there is no response.

Could someone please advise us in this matter?
We woud be extremely grateful to you.
Regards
Naseer.

If the email doesn't give you the link to book the biometric appointment then call the contact centre for assistance.
I would presume they have found your applications hence the request.
Good luck

Can you request a SAR? that sometimes shows some of their inner workings. I would recommend writing to your MP and Home secretary again with a follow up. Had you submitted a complaint?

We called the contact centre and spoke to a male advisor. He was surprised too why our case is taking so long. He said he was not sure what was happening with our application.
Anyhow, he advised us to send an email back to them asking for biometrics. We send all the previous emails to them proving that we did biometrics and we got confimation emails from the Home Office.
The issue is that they have given us 45 working days after which they said our application will be rejected. We followed their guidance and submitted everything they asked us, and now they are threatening us of rejection of application.

We will try to request SAR.
We have already sent all the previous emails from the Home Office confirming the complete submission of biometrics and supporting documents. The MP has replied that he has raised this with the Home Office.
We will write to the Home Secretary again as you have advised.
Could you please elaborate a bit more about submitting a complaint? How do we do that? Would that be a good idea at this stage?
Moreover, the Home Office takes so much time to reply. What if they reply to our emails after the expiry of the deadline (45 working days)? What if, in that situation, our application is rejected?
Please advise us.
I really appreciate your time and effort.

Naseer

I don't know what would happen if they didn't contact you with instructions on how to do your biometrics, unfortunately. You can submit a complaint following the instructions in this thread https://www.immigrationboards.com/month ... 43483.html

Why haven't you replied that email asking how to submit and what reference is required to submit. That's what I would have done.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!
