dependent partner Visa expiry before ILR - Extension process

Post by RFA » Tue Jul 01, 2025 3:44 pm

Kindly advise regarding the following: Skilled worker visa now has ILR, but the dependent partner (spouse) is still on the "dependent visa". The visa expires mid July. The spouse needs to extend the visa till end October 2025, before they could apply for ILR.

Please advise:

Question 1: which online link / form should be used for visa extension of the dependent partner / spouse, considering that skilled worker visa holder, now has ILR?

Question 2: is it possible to get extension for less then 3 years, as only few months extension is needed?

Question 3: Would any of the actions reset the clock?

1. Skilled worker dependent visa.

2. No, the immigration rules state it is 3 years, you cannot choose a lesser time.

3. No.

Thank you. Can you also advise how to address these two questions within the form:

The form asks,

"Does [name] already have their Skilled worker visa?

Option 1: Yes
Option 2: No

If I select yes, it asks for the visa ending date (but the main applicant has now attained ILR and doesn't have a visa expiry date).

If I press no, it takes me to this question: Do you have [name]'s UAN?

Please advise which one is the correct choice. If it is second one, which UAN do I need to put, the one for ILR or previous skilled worker visa?

Thank you.

The spouse has now received the visa. However, we are facing an issue with accessing the eVisa.

When logging into the UKVI website using the BRP number (which expired on 31 December 2024 like others), the eVisa appears correctly.

However, when attempting to log in using passport details, although login is granted, the account does not display the eVisa.

Instead, it shows the original visa application and prompts to check the email for visa confirmation and next steps.

I have checked the email and, aside from confirming the visa approval, there are no specific instructions or details regarding next steps.

I also tried adding the passport to the UKVI account associated with the BRP login, but the system indicates that the passport is already recorded with the Home Office and therefore cannot be uploaded again.

It appears that two separate UKVI accounts were inadvertently created; one based on the BRP and the other on the passport. As a result, the BRP linked account shows the eVisa, but does not allow integration of passport details.

This creates a complication, as the eVisa is not currently connected to the passport.
