Switching from workpermit to Tier 1(General)

Hello All,

I am working here in UK from Past 2 Years on company workpermit,because of my future needs i want to switch to Tier 1.

i have some doubts.
--)my Passport is valid for sep 2011 but as for i understood from the forum that we will get visa stamped for 3 Yrs,can i get 3 Yrs Visa though my Passport is valid less than 3 yrs from applied date?
--)i got married in UK,my wife is on student visa,we can not apply for dependent status from here,so in application shall i write her name and details though her visa is not dependent.
--)i did my Engg. from Gulbarga University,now Gulbarga University is no more offering Engg. i have checked self assesment tool ,i have seen the University listed but because this University is no more responsible for Engg Studies,so i still can eligible for English language skills?
--)which is the better way to apply for Tier1 in UK, is Consultants done better job for us or better to apply our own?
--)please some one can explain me in Brief about the how to apply with in UK.

I hope some one of our freinds reply to my quries.

dont worry about that. Is perfectly fine. If approved, you will get a VISA for 3 years

Yes. Any particular reason you thought you shouldn't?

If the points calculator awards 10 points for the institute and course then you are fine otherwise you will have to write one of the prescribed tests.

is an individual choice. If you can follow through the instructions contained in the Guidance notes and have the patience to search for relevant info in this forum then you dont need a consultant

unfortunately not. See the following from UKBA guidance:

Switching is permitted when applying as a family member who currently holds leave as the partner or child of a person who had leave under another category and who has since been granted, or is, at the same time, being granted leave to remain as a Relevant Points Based System Migrant.
