I have been lurking on this message board for months and I want to say a huge thank you. I received my ILR today.
To preface, I am Canadian and was sponsored by my spouse, receiving my travel vignette in...early 2020. This was during the COVID19 pandemic and my flights kept getting cancelled. My travel vignette expired, as flights kept getting cancelled. I was finally able to get another vignette and a flight 4 months afterwards. The problem with all this is that my visa's validity date started from when I received my vignette, whereas this is largely irrelevant on a spouse visa, which is more dependent on when you landed in the UK. Because of this discrepancy (and I was not aware of it until 2022, when I first extended my visa), my visa would be valid for 30 months from when I first received it in early 2020, whereas I would not be eligible to apply for ILR until over 2 months after that.
I then read some posts on here about how people can vary their applications from an extension to a ILR but I had not come across someone with such a big time gap. I confirmed this advice with a family friend, who is a solicitor in immigration law and read the guidance on the gov.uk website. Regardless, I still had to extend my visa, which I applied for 2 days before it was due to expire. At the end of the process, I was advised that I had until the 1st of August to submit my documents and attend my biometrics appointment, so I selected the day I was off, which was the 31st of July. Of course booking this appointment required me to wait until at least a month before (~1st of July), as the VCAS website only shows you appointments up to a month in advance. I attended my appointment and submitted by biometrics, then 3 days later, I applied for my ILR with super priority, submitted my documents online, and attended my biometrics appointment on the 4th day for ILR.
And received my ILR in ~3 hours.
In short, my timeline before my ILR application was as follows:
Received travel vignette: March 2020
Received second travel vignette: August 2020
Landed in the UK: 02/09/2020 (eligible for ILR in 5 years - 28 days -> i.e. 02/09/2025 - 28 days = 05/08/2025, which is today!)
Received my BRP: 09/09/2020
Visa extension and renewed BRP: November 2022, with expiration of visa on 04/06/2025
Visa extension for the second time: 01/06/2025
Biometrics for visa extension submitted: 31/07/2025
Applied for ILR Route : Set M with super priority (varying my extension application)
Date application sent : 04/08/2025
Date Biometrics Enrolled : 05/08/2025 @09:10AM
Approval Received : 05/08/2025 @12:30AM
I believe I'm already eligible to apply for citizenship, as I'm on the spouse visa; just need to contact potential referees.
Once again, I cannot thank this forum enough!
