Requested addional info - Certified copy of Birth Certificate

Post by Selma42 » Thu Jul 17, 2025 5:07 pm

Hi,

I have been requested a Certified copy of Birth Certificate for my naturalization application.
I am an EU citizen and the certificate is not in English, but it contains an English annex :

MULTILINGUAL STANDARD FORM -TRANSLATION AID
Article 7 ofRegulation (EU) 2016/1191 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 6 July 2016 on promoting the free movement of citizens by simplifying the requirements for presenting certain public documents in the European Union and amending Regulation (EU) No 1024/2012􀀄􀀕

This form reflects the content of the public document to which it is attached. However, the authority to which the public document is presented may require, when necessary for the purpose of processing the public document, a translation or transliteration of the information included in the form.

Would you know if this is enough for Inis or should I have the certificate translated by an authorized third party?

Thanks in advance

They asked for a certified copy, not a translation. Simply make a colour copy of your birth certificate and get a solicitor to certify it, the same way how you certify your passport.

I don't know why INIS is making this unnecessarily difficult for everybody. Previously when you submit your naturalisation application, you need to submit a certified copy of birth certificate and passport. So people would just get the same solicitor to certify both documents.

Now it seems they only ask for a certified copy of passport, but then they would randomly pick a few people and ask them to submit a certified copy of birth certificate at a later stage.

Thanks @littlerr

On a different note, years ago I was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, but the test came back under the limit and I was released without charge or conviction. I didn’t disclose this under the question:

“Are you, or have you been, the subject of an investigation in Ireland by An Garda Síochána, including where you were not charged with any offence?”

I genuinely didn’t think it was worth mentioning, since there was no charge or follow-up. But after reading other posts here, I realise it probably should have been included.

Can I update this answer now when I’m resubmitting the form with my birth certificate? I just want to be transparent and make sure this doesn’t become an issue down the line.

Thank you

I think you can just request for a Garda report of yourself and see if they hold anything of you. No need to mention that if the report comes back clean.

Thank you, will do that.
So, should I hold off on sending the additional information they asked for at this stage, and submit only when I have the Garda report?

Thanks again, you are very kind.

I don’t think disclosing the information at this stage would help or harm you either way. As long as they haven’t asked you to do your eVetting (which only happens before the full approval/ceremony invitation), they aren’t really looking into your application. So my suggestion is to see what information Garda actually have in their system first.

Hi Littlerr,

I just received an email from Inis stating that I need to upload the additional info within 10 working days, otherwise my application may be rejected.
I applied for the subject access request with the garda and received acknowledgement 10 days ago...but it may take up to 30 days to receive a reply.
If I don't receive a reply by mid week next week I will submit the additional info with Inis and respond yes to the garda investigation question giving details..
Does this sound an OK plan to you?

Thank you!

Of course. That sounds like the most sensible decision. Make sure you stick to the deadline they gave to you.

Thanks littlerr,

I have resubmitted the application with the additional information / documents on August 14th.
Should I expect a Garda Vetting invitation by post?

Thank you
