Skilled Worker Visa - property buy & sell query

Post by prsh » Wed Aug 13, 2025 2:10 pm

Hello, My query is a little different but would appreciate if someone can shed some light on it.

My friend and I have been in the UK for 3.5 and 2.5 years on Skilled Worker visas. He plans to sell his property in India, and I’m interested in buying it. To make it easy, I’d prefer to pay part of the amount directly in GBP here in the UK, rather than transferring money between the UK and India. Is this possible, and how can we arrange it?

It benefits both of us: he plans to stay and pursue the ILR route, so he'll need money in the UK, while I intend to return to India.

Thank you in advance.

How is this related to immigration?

This is really a question for a property and financial lawyer and/or forum, not for here.

I don't think the UK itself will have a problem with the contract, but it may be an issue in India. For a start, under which country's law will the contract be written in (English, Scots or Indian law)? Secondly, does India have any laws controlling how the foreign exchange of its citizens is transacted globally? And as mentioned above, this is not an immigration question, but one for a property and financial lawyer/forum to advise you on. Choose one with information on international property purchase/sale.
