Ancestry ILR

Post by roanne15 » Tue Sep 23, 2025 8:20 pm

Good evening

I come to you as this forum has been helpful in the past. A family member is extremely stressed, they have an ancestry visa issued 2nd November 2020. Entered the UK 17 December 2020. The expiry of the visa 2nd November 2025. My question is can they apply for ILR before the 2nd of November 2025 even though they will be short of 45 days to make it 5 years. They are a family of 5, 2 Adults and 3 kids. What are the options available if they can’t apply as they fall short example fee waiver

Yes. Apply shortly before visa expiry and delay biometrics till mid December. They have 45 working days to attend biometrics. Also, the qualifying period starts from visa issue date and the delay in entering the UK counts towards the absence limit of 180 days in any 12 month rolling period.

They will have to find the money somewhere. There is no fee waiver for this visa category.
