Irish Citizenship with 2-Year Gap Before Final Year

Post by suyrs » Fri Sep 26, 2025 3:05 pm

I’m an EU citizen applying for Irish citizenship in early 2026. The requirement is 5 years of residence within the last 9 years, including 1 continuous year before application.

My residence history:
2019-2022: Lived in Ireland (4 years)
2023-2024: Outside Ireland
2025: Full year in Ireland

This technically meets the 5-year requirement, but I’m wondering if having a 2-year gap before the final year causes issues in practice. Has anyone successfully applied with a similar residence pattern?
