Registration for child whose parents aren't citizens

Post by Imm2021 » Sat Oct 25, 2025 9:46 am

Hi.

Just a question; I was going through the MN1 guide for registering a child born outside the UK. And from what I could gather, it seems that normally one of the parents would have to be either a British citizen, or be of British descent. Towards the end of the guide however, it seems that there is a provision that if the parents are applying at the same time, the child can indeed be registered. I just wanted to see if you could help me to confirm that?

Thank you!

If both parents and the overseas-born child have either ILR or Settled Status, the child can be registered as British citizen at the same time as at least one parent is applying for naturalisation.
