British citizenship

Post by yasmeen81 » Sat Dec 06, 2025 12:17 pm

Hello everyone

I am in a process to apply for British citizenship as I have settled status since 2020. I have been in this country since 20 years and I used to have old indefinite leave to remain paper since 2005 as well . I just didn’t get around to apply for British nationality. While filling the form it asked for marital status . I am currently separated from husband since nearly two years . He came in Uk under eu settlement scheme in 2020 . I am legally married but we are separated and more likely the marriage will end . I am bit confused on what status should I use on form separated or married. I don’t even know where he lives now . What is the best option in this case . Can somebody please guide

Thanks

Suggest you select "married".
If the form asks for your husband's detail just supply the details you know, those you don't have state "not known" - not an issue.
You will apply under the "5 year route", in your own right. I assume husband is not a British citizen.

Council tax is OK for residency proof, whether you get discount or not.

You can also apply for a SAR as proof of residence.

Hi everyone

I am in a process to do online application for British citizenship. I have few questions , just a background I am eu national and have settled status and has been in this country since 2000 and also have letter of indefinite leave to remain .

I have been asked to provide
Proof of living in the UK for 5 years if applying in your own right or 3 years if applying as the spouse of a British Citizen

If you are an EEA National, you need to include letters from employers, educational establishments or other government departments, indicating your presence in the UK during the relevant 3- or 5-year period.
No bank statement or bills are not suitable .

What proof do I need to submit , am I ok to submit p60, wage slips , council tax , tax history from hmrc ? Or what other documents please ? Also how many documents for each year .

Also I have been asked to scan all pages of passports used . Just wondering is it to cover passport used in last 5 years ? I have used two passport in last 5 years , one expired last year so I need to scan all pages from new passport too?

I hope somebody can help

You don't need to submit all those documents, if you have P60s (1 for each year) complete, that would be fine, if not use some from the other types. Note the application requires a minimum of documents. One document for each for each year.
Also I have been asked to scan all pages of passports used . Just wondering is it to cover passport used in last 5 years ? I have used two passport in last 5 years , one expired last year so I need to scan all pages from new passport too?
Scan all pages for both. Best to avoid potential request if you left one out.
I hope somebody can help

Thanks for the reply . I have almost finished the form and the system gave the checklist of documents that’s
need to provided. In my case I passed my life in the uk test in 2011 , I have inserted the reference number on online form , do I need to submit the certificate too? It didn’t ask me to upload the document .

Also I have settled status and inserted the reference number on the form , but system didn’t ask me to submit the document. I am worried incase I miss sending any document .

Reference numbers re enough. You can upload them if you so wish but they will find what they need through the URNs.

Thank you for the reply , How can I include further information or additional information on the online form , I don’t seem to find any box where I can explain myself . I need to mention that I’m separated but still legally married as I have put married on the marital status option rather than separated . This application is based on my own residence as settled status . Can somebody please help , really appreciate the advice given so far
Thank you

You don’t need to explain yourself.
As your husband is not a British citizen you can only apply under the 5 year residency in your own right. Your husband doesn’t need to sign anything. Also your marital situation has no impact on your application. Caseworkers know the rules.

You can. Won’t make a difference. If there’s a query caseworker will contact you. There’s no issues with this as you comply with the statutory requirements.

Thanks for the reply . I am bit stuck in this question , can somebody explained exactly what we need to do .

Have you made any previous UK immigration applications in the UK or abroad

I have made application for permanent residence in 2000, then applied for settled status in 2020 . My question is do I need to include also that I sponsor my husband in 2019 by eea family permit application and later after 6 month applied for pre settled status for husband . Do I need to include these applications as well that are linked with husband visa etc ??

This is about your personal applications,i.e. PR and EUSS. So only list those.
Not applications you have submitted on behalf of others.

Hi

I am filling an online application for British citizenship there is a question which I need some advice on

Have you been granted indefinite leave to enter, or remain, in the UK?

My background is I have been in this country since 2000, I was granted permanent residence on 2 August 2005 , later on in 2020 I applied for settled status as eu national . So which dates should I put and should I entered the UAN number as reference.

Should I write a cover letter and submit the letter of permanent residence as proof ?

Can somebody guide me please .

Enter the two applications you stated, with the UANs. You will use your settled status for evidence of ILR.

Once you created the account with TLS, you should be able to upload the documents on that platform.

Yes, you'll be able to upload the supporting documents once biometrics have been booked.

The system will give you instructions on what to do.

Hi all
I have been told to submit following evidence for my British naturalisation

-Colour copies of all pages of the passport or travel document .

I have eu settled status , do I need to submit the pdf file of my status or the sharecode as well ?

Will these documents I need to attached under proof of application option ?

-Proof of living in the UK for Ms xxxxxxx for 5 years if applying in your own right
or 3 years if applying as the spouse of a British Citizen

I have p60 , council tax , wage slips. Is bank statements or bills not count as proof ?

Should I put above Evidence of residence in the UK/Proof option instead of finances.

—The degree certificate to prove the level of
English
Do I need to submit life in Uk test certificate too ? These will be under educational option ?

Is there anything else do I need to submit as well?

Also can I use my idiot-phone to upload documents or do I need to do it through desktop site . Thanks for all the help so far .

Hi all
I have been told to submit following evidence for my British naturalisation

-Colour copies of all pages of the passport or travel document .

I have eu settled status , do I need to submit the pdf file of my status or the sharecode as well ? No. provide the letter that grated you status if available, the rest is not necessary

Will these documents I need to attached under proof of application option ? Just use any category to upload all evidence

-Proof of living in the UK for Ms xxxxxxx for 5 years if applying in your own right
or 3 years if applying as the spouse of a British Citizen

I have p60 , council tax , wage slips. Is bank statements or bills not count as proof ? P60s are enough if they cover the 5 years, no need to upload anything else

Should I put above Evidence of residence in the UK/Proof option instead of finances.

—The degree certificate to prove the level of
English
Do I need to submit life in Uk test certificate too ? These will be under educational option ? No, the URN for the life in the UK test will be enough. As I said above it doesn't matter the category you upload them on.

Is there anything else do I need to submit as well? No, this is everything

Also can I use my idiot-phone to upload documents or do I need to do it through desktop site . Thanks for all the help so far . I can't advise on what model of phone you have. A desktop computer may be the safest option.
