No, it will most likely be OK. You didn't overstay and it was 10 years ago. In case they have questions, which is unlikely, you will be contacted.
All advice comes from personal research and experience and should not be regarded as professional opinion.

British Citizen Application - Approved

Post by steveojo22 » Mon Dec 15, 2025 1:40 pm

Hello all,

Just a quick update from me, I have received my British Citizenship application approval today from the Home Office, thank you for all your support from start to finish, I really appreciate your guidance.

Just a quick question, I will be travelling out of the UK tomorrow for our Christmas Holiday returning in early January 2026.

As I have not booked my Citizenship Ceremony with my council, can i still travel with my Indefinite Leave to Remain status (ILR) please?

My plan is to go for my British Citizenship ceremony after my return in January.

Thank you for your guidance on this.

Yes you can.

You can book the citizenship ceremony now for a date after your return with no issues. Booking a ceremony doesn't affect your current status.
