ILR changes for my wife's application

Post by shohjura » Mon Dec 29, 2025 5:51 pm

hi guys,
hope everyone is doing well, got few questions about my wife's ILR application, she just received her extension based on my British passport (I got it on 10 year route, we also have a British son born here), she is due to apply for ILR in March 2028 (got her initial visa in March 2023), my questions:

-is the 5 year route still valid or is it being proposed to increase to 10 years?
-she has B1 Ielts, is it being proposed to change to B2 for ILR?
-same with Life in UK test-is it worth taking the test now?
-I claim child benefit (not her)-would it affect her application?
-can she apply for British citizenship straight after ILR or needs to wait for 12 months?

many thanks!

We cannot advise you on what to expect in 2028. No new rules have been announced and things are always bound to change without much notice. Some or all the rules regarding ILR are subject to change. Any advice based on the rules in place today are not that useful for 2028. Please come back in 2028 and seek advice in due time
