Delay in receiving citizenship certificate

Post by indiwarjha » Mon Jan 19, 2026 12:13 pm

Hello everyone,

I would really appreciate any help for my particular case for citizenship certificate delay for my daughter. I have searched online in different forums, but could not find a related topic. Can someone in this forum please help me with my case which is mentioned below?

I had applied for UK citizenship for two of my daughters on 2nd October 2025 (Both born in the UK). I applied it in a group, thus both of them have the same application reference number. I received two separate emails for both of my daughter's citizenship approval from UKVI on 25th December 2025. For one of my daughter, I received the citizenship certificate on 24th December 2025 (a day earlier than the approval email). But, I have not yet received the same for my other daughter (as of 19th Jan 2026).

I have tried contacting the citizenship support and the further nationality enquiries via email, but I have not received any response. The UKVI phone helpline say that they cannot offer any support other than providing the email addresses mentioned above.

Has anyone else in the forum experienced any delays in receiving citizenship certificate after approval? What are my other options to escalate the case? I need the certificate to apply for my daughters UK passport (and to prove that she is here in the UK legally).

Thank you for your reply, I'll go through the options and will post any outcomes as and when I receive them.

Further updates:

Sent email to citizenship.support@homeoffice.gov.uk on 5th January, received no response.

Sent an email to FurtherNationalityEnquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk on 13th January. They forwarded my case to the CCST, Nationality Department (Don't know when). Received a reply from citizenship.support@homeoffice.gov.uk email id with Royal Mail tracking number on 20th January.

Reached out to Royal Mail to track item. The certificate was dispatched on 23rd December, reached the mailing center on 24th December, but nothing after that. Over the phone, they simply said that the item is now marked as lost. I explained that it is an important and legal document, they said that they cannot do anything and told me to ask the sender to raise a claim.

Sent a reply on 20th January to the email received from the citizenship support team requesting for new certificate to be delivered and raise a claim with Royal mail.

See if they reply, and raise a complaint if they take too long.

Final Updates:

Submitted an online complaint to Royal Mail from https://help.royalmail.com/s/complaints on 22 January stating that it contained citizenship certificate. Received an automatic reply from Royal Mail immediately after.

24th January. Received the certificate in my letter box after 1 month delay for tracked 24 item. Quite relieved!

The certificate was delivered with proof and updated delivered status online. This was a little strange as Royal Mail usually don't update delivered status for such a long delayed item.

I don't know what may have worked, contacting the citizenship support, Royal Mail complaint, or simply it was the case of very delayed delivery with no action from either party.

I have then sent an email to both citizenship support and further nationality enquiry team that I have received the certificate.
