Naturalisation Apply Few queries

Post by kirukiru » Mon Dec 29, 2025 11:28 am

Hi Everyone,

At the end of jan, the ILR 12 months period gets over and will be applying for the Naturalisation process. Have few queries as got travel in march

1. After applying can i travel out of uk(March first 3 weeks ) and before the decision ?
2. What happens if i am out and the decision comes? Will be allowed to travel back in UK ?
3. Are there any restriction on the travelling after the naturalisation is done ? Or it is compulsary to apply for passport ?

Thanks

Yes - ensure you give biometrics before travelling, just in case.
2. What happens if i am out and the decision comes? Will be allowed to travel back in UK ?
You will use your ILR status - you will only be British once attended the ceremony, the decision email is only advisory.
3. Are there any restriction on the travelling after the naturalisation is done ? Or it is compulsary to apply for passport ?
You can apply for a passport anytime after you have received your certificate at the ceremony. No compulsion but if you wish to travel recommended you apply. I would apply anyway as it's a convenient document to show you are British.
Thanks
Also note you will no longer under immigration control as a BC. Keep the certificate safe, as that's the official proof you are British.

1. After applying can i travel out of uk(March first 3 weeks ) and before the decision ? Yes, just make sure you attend the biometric appointment first
2. What happens if i am out and the decision comes? Will be allowed to travel back in UK ? Yes, you won't become British until you attend the ceremony.
3. Are there any restriction on the travelling after the naturalisation is done ? Or it is compulsary to apply for passport ? You need to obtain a British passport to travel abroad as your ILR status will no longer be valid, or obtain a ROA sticker on your foreign passport. Without either of these it is not advised to travel.

Thanks

There's no fast-track for naturalisation, it's not immigration.
You are British from the date of the certificate. Passport is a separate application after that.
The UK is not interested in any other nationalities you may hold.

Please post questions about Indian passport surrender in the Other Countries forum. That is a matter for Indian law and Indian authorities and has nothing to do with British law or authorities.

- Does it need to be accurate ? Like URN and dates You can use approx dates month/year. Some data fields are/maybe "if known".
- Does it impact application processing or timelines ? Certainly not your eligibility, unlikely timelines, they can be up to 6 months or sometimes longer.

2. Its the partner so I can add her and apply it together ? If she satisfies all requirements then yes. Note each person is assessed separately, not as part of family or group.

Thanks

We don't know for sure what has an impact on timelines. It doesn't affect your staturoy requirements in any case, so it's not worth worrying too much about it.

What profession is your "normal professional" referee? are they a British citizen and over 25?

A bit of confusion on list of documents:
- passports for both - color copies is asked so that is fine.

-Ecctis letter that confirms the qualification meets or exceeds the recognised standard of a Bachelor's or Masters degree or PhD in the UK -- Is it the naric letter to be added ?

- degree certificate for both is fine

-Proof of living in the UK for Mr x for 5 years if applying in your own right
If you are not married, or in a civil partnership with, a British citizen, you must have been in the UK for the past 5 years.
If you are a Non-EEA National, you need to include your passport to prove you have lived in the UK for the relevant 3- or 5-year period.
If you do not have your passport or it was not stamped when you entered the UK, you need to include letters (for example, from your employer or government department) as proof.
Bank statements or household bills are not suitable proof you have been living in the UK.

----> what are the valid proofs please? This is a bit of confusion as bank statements or bills are not suitable :?

- last is 2 referee so that is fine..

any help would be great ...

thanks in advance

Proof of living in the UK is a scanned copy of the stamped pages on your passport covering the qualifying period - 5 years.

Nothing else is needed!

We cannot visualise the TLS portal or what you're doing on it.

Free appointments are usually limited, you need to try at different times, booking on different dates or even different UKVCAS centres (near to you/when possible).

i understand that.. but the issue is there are no FREE regular slots avaialble..
as soon as i select document scanning service(50 per person )
all regular slots shows up.. this is really weird. ..

it shows the availaiblity as next regular slot 2 feb london glee .. but when i checked on that day.. only prime slots are availabel..

i am london based and can go till reading croydon and london centres...

London centres have always been the most difficult to get free appointments, need to be patient and persistent.

If you think the site is behaving in a strange way then report the issue to TLS.
