Absywabs wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 11:32 pmHello,
I am a British Citizen.
My daughter was born overseas before I was British or had ILR.
Now both my wife and my daughter are in the UK and last year both got ILR.
Now I am in the process of applying for Citizenship for both of them. I used the online application for the mother (my wife) and added our daughter into that application. Did you add "child under 18" at the end of wife's application. This adjusts the form to MN1.
Is this correct as I believe my daughter needs to be registered (MN1) not naturalised? Correct. Is it ok to just add her to my wife's naturalisation application? Yes
Second question:
At the end of my daughters application there is a question that explains the 3/5 year qualification period and asks if my daughter meets this qualification period. This applies to adults applying for naturalisation. Not sure why it would ask this for your daughter
When I read the MN1 guidance it mentions in my circumstance (I am using Home Secretary's discretion 3(1) in line with parents provision) she is only required to have been resident in the UK for 2 years.
Unfortunately my daughter does not meet the 5 year requirement due to COVID related travel disruption. N/A for daughter.
So how do I answer this question "Do you meet these residence requirements?"
Do I say No and then write an explanation under MN1 Section 3(1) in line with parents her qualification period is actually 2 years OR do I answer Yes and ignore the explanation. Should be yes,no further explanation needed.
Thank you very much!

Thank you very much!Absywabs wrote: ↑Thu Jan 15, 2026 2:43 pmThanks alterhase58 for taking the time and for your effort in responding.
One last question please.
For my daughter we couldn't get anybody who is involved in her care to provide their details to be a referee. When we asked the school they gave us a letter that seems to a better fit as evidence for the good character requirement (has the teachers details but no passport number etc).
So:
1. Should we use this teacher as a referee but without her passport information supplied with the letter as one of the referees?
2. Should we use two family friends as referees, explain in a cover letter that we tried but failed to get a referee for my daughter, hence we have provided these referees and a covering letter from the school.
The covering letter is now older than 30 days. Should we request a new one?
Thanks again!

Just wanted to add an update to this. We figured out why the application was asking this odd question (adding this so somebody else doesn't make the same mistake). When adding our daughter we've mistakenly used the Naturalise as a British Citizen form (when adding her to my wife's application) rather than registration as a British Citizen. Once the correct application was used there were no issues as it doesn't ask about a 5 year residency.alterhase58 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 7:46 amAbsywabs wrote: ↑Tue Jan 13, 2026 11:32 pmHello,
