UK citizen but with only Italian passport

My partner is Italian and has got a British citizenship last year but hasn't applied for passport due to nearly weekly travel. Now he's abroad and won't be able to get ETA to come back. How can he fly back to the UK? Been reading that Eurostar is an option but Eurostar also asks for ETA confirmation before checking in, and the other is via Dublin but that's a massive hassle due to need to go to Belfast then. Any other solutions?? Many many thanks!

Why keep stressing yourselves when passport processing only takes 2 weeks? He knew what the rule was before he travelled abroad. He can apply for a BP from the UK embassy in the country he's at. That's definitely going to take more than 2 weeks.
