Eligibility for ILR

Post by uma46 » Fri Apr 03, 2026 7:53 pm

I arrived in UK in April 2016 for my course of M Phil . Due to certain delays with my supervisor after taking extension I completed my studies and my end date visa was January 2020 . Due to COVID lockdown I was unable to travel in Jan 2020 and the Home Office had given me the COVID extension concession up to August 2020 the reason I could not travel was there was no flights to my home country so I was stranded in UK. I left the country on the first week of September 2020 When flights resumed. Before leaving the country I had secured PhD admission with a university and my start date was in January 2021 . I had applied for my visa by End of December 2020. But due to lockdown I could only travel to UK in the first week of March although my course did start and I was corresponding with my supervisors from India.
Right now I'm here in the UK so approximately calculating my stay here I came in 2016 and I had a break in 2020 which is mentioned above and right now I would like to know if I'm eligible to apply for my ILR and whether the COVID extension concession will be applicable to me please advise whether I am eligible for the 10 years ILR thank you

It seems you left the UK without a valid visa and did not apply for a new visa within 14 days which breaks your continuous residence. So I'd say you are not eligible under the long residence.
