Citizenship Application Byelaw Conviction

Post by fanti42 » Sun Apr 12, 2026 10:06 pm

Hi all,

Due to my financial situation, I was caught using the TFL services without a ticket one day and received a fine of around £500 from the court, which I paid. The court hearing was two months ago.

I received the fine under Byelaw 17(1). I have no other criminal record. I do not receive any government support.

Now I am considering applying for Citizenship, but what are my chances of success?

Thanks

Do you have other instances against your good character? Have you ever overstayed or had issues with your immigration status?

I'd say no issue, but highlight your good standing in the community (eg through volunteering) and explain you regret your mistake.

Thank you for your reply.

The thing is that, some of solicitors says no issue, some of says I have to wait first.

I can wait up to 1 year it’s not problem but the new immigration rules coming soon and if it’s affect my application then It’ll be big problem for me, I can’t wait longer.

So I am at the moment really desparete.

You asked for my opinion and I said I don't think is an issue. there may be some disagreement. We still don't know what the rule changes are going to be and if citizenship will be impacted at all (so far the talk has been about ILR that I know of, rather than citizenship). It may feel like a gamble, which is your decision to make or not. I reiterate my advice as above.
