Havent't come across this.
You have a registration certificate, as adult? What is the wording? Under what section are you registered, which should be mentioned on the certificate? Does it say "British citizen"?

While you are at it, check the Section mentioned on all three certificates. Your child will likely be under Section 3(1) and your wife under Section 6(2).

Are you by any chance a British National Overseas from Hong Kong? or were you born in the UK and lived here for the first 10 years of your life?

They are the only adults that I can think of that register as British citizens and not naturalise. On your certificate, if the Section listed is Section 6(1), you have naturalised as a British citizen and not registered.
