Tricky Visa Situation For Pilot after acquiring Citizenship

Post by tonyc » Wed Jun 03, 2026 2:49 pm

Hi

I am a current South African Passport holder with a current visa that I use to come in and out of the country.
I have finally become a naturalized British Citizen after attending the ceremony.
I immediately applied for a british passport but as its a first time application it can take 3 weeks to process
I work as an airline pilot and need to come in and out of the country
I didn't realize that as soon as i became a British Citizen the visa was automatically cancelled
Not sure how to handle the 3 week period for not having a british passport and still being able to perform my duties as a pilot.

Any advice on handling this tricky situation would be appreciated

Can you speak to your employer and ask them for alternate duties that you can carry out within the UK while your passport is being prepared?

Alternatively, can you take leave/vacation time while the passport is being prepared?
