Ilr letter

Post by Ammer1 » Fri Jun 05, 2026 9:40 pm

My wife got her ilr at the end of 2012 but we never applied for citizenship due to being busy with kids one of whom is autistic. She is currently applying to university to do her Msc and they are asking for the letter we got when ilr was given. I find this bit strange as we have given them the share code for the e visa which has all her information on it. Can I get the ilr letter from the home office and which department do I contact.

Did you not keep the original (or copy) of the ILR grant letter/email?
Share code is for specific purposes (right to work, right to rent, etc), admissions are unlikely to be aware.

Given that eVisa replaced BRP, the share code is the way to prove your ILR status indeed. A letter is not a right document to prove your ILR status at all. It appears that the university staff are unaware of how you need to demonstrate your immigration status in the UK
