Hi,

I would be applying for my Tier 1 extension this week. I am currently in U.K in HSMP and I received my initial HSMP after dec/2006 when new rules regarding english language requirements etc came in to picture.

Yes, you have chosen the correct option if you had applied for your initial HSMP after 5th Dec 2006.
