HSMP extension - what is home office reference number

I got initial HSMP visa on April 2007, So I have apply for extention before 24 April 2009. While filling application form , i came accorss home office reference number , can you please let me know what is it means?

it is a set of numbers as indicated in your first visa application. if you can't recall then just leave it blank as the HO will just use your name/details to cross check with their database.

It must be printed/written on your current EC.

You can use your HSMP reference number from the initial approval or leave it blank if there is other section for the previous.
