Hi all,

I just got my tenancy agreement sorted out, however the estate agency made a color copy of the last page (with the signatures) saying that its against the law for the agency to give originals. I am not sure if this is correct? I know for certain the ECO wants to see nothing but the original.

Additionally, the sponsor letter I created needs to have my passport number and DOB too (I am sponsoring my wife and her details are there in the letter)?

The Estate agents do keep the original tenancy agreement with themselves, but they should give you a copy of the agreement.

The copy agreement should suffice for the purpose of your wives application.

If you still insist on the original version, then there is no harm in asking the estate agents if they could draw up two original documents of the tenancy agreement, and give you one and they keep the other(saves having to photocopy it). If not then don't worry, a copy would be ok. Just explain this in your sponsorship letter.

Are you sure this is what they actually said? If so it sounds a bit iffy.

Most estate agents will happily produce 2 originals as pointed out by batleykhan. Otherwise ask the agency to put it in writing that they are not allowed "by law" to do this.

Along with maintenance, accommodation is the other common reason for refusals. As you're already aware, the Home Office really do not like photocopies - no matter how pretty they are.
