Time taken so far - are we normal?

Post by Mrs Koz » Thu Feb 26, 2009 10:52 pm

Hi,
I have resisted asking these questions for 4 weeks now because I'm sure it has been asked before. However, I have read many, many posts over the last 8 weeks and haven’t found the answer to my question(s).
Background: My husband and I applied for a settlement visa at the World Bridge office in Istanbul, Turkey on December 30th 2008. I then returned to the UK to continue working (I am a primary school teacher - I went to visit him/apply for the visa with him during the school holiday).
We were given a letter at the WB office stating he would be called within around 15 working days (3 weeks). 43 working days on we have heard nothing. I have emailed WB twice - to which they responded a quote: 'target is for 90% applications to be decided in 12 weeks (60 working days)' We have heard many stories and I have read loads of posts on here that say their visas have been granted in days, sometimes a few weeks or possibly a month.

My Questions are:
Might there be a problem with our application?
Is there anything we can do?
Is no news good news?
Is it common for applications to take this amount of time?

I appreciate these questions are difficult to answer but any knowledge or wisdom people can offer to our case please do.....I feel so lonely and feel like I'm going crazy with all this waiting :(

I wouldnt entirely go by what the Embassy or its agents say about the length of time is taken for an application to be processed.

In an ideal sittuation it would be ok, you have tohowever consider that in ceratin countries things take longer because that it might be that they have had a surge in application, the time taken by the embassy to check document etc, as most applications are decided on the documents presented with an application.

I think on average the waiting period for a spouse visa is 12 weeks.

There is no harm in phoning and emailing the embassy to find out what is happening with your application. In some countries you can check online the latest position of your application

Thank you for replying..........will just have to keep waiting. I would love to contact the embassy but it is impossible to get to them! We even went to the door of the British Embassy last week but they wouldn’t let us past security! We were given an email address at security which is now no longer in use....all enquiries need to go through Word Bridge - which is a pain seeing as they don’t know anything !
Thanks Again

Thanks for your comments......it is good to know other people are waiting but sorry you are waiting if you know what I mean!!!

I dont understand why there is such a big difference in the processing times for different centres.....?

If there is anyone who has applied to the Istanbul Centre and is still waiting please let me know!

I really hope this comes to an end soon for all of us...
