Work Permit lost on job loss - move to dependent?

Post by devina » Sat Jan 31, 2009 12:06 pm

Hello,

Just lost my job here in the UK and I assume the WP will get cancelled in a few weeks. Which is the best way to stay on? I have the option to apply for a dependent visa (my spouse holds a work permit till Dec 09) or an HSMP. Which would be the easiest and fastest way to ensure I can continue staying here in the UK?

If I apply for visa and do not receive it stamped before my WP is cancelled, would it affect my PR application in the future?

Any advice on this? I too am in a similar predicament being an Australian WP holder, recently made redundant by UK employer and wish to stay for a further three months to travel (not looking for future employment). As I understand I have 30 days to leave the UK once WP is cancelled by my employer which doesn’t give me enough time to sort out everything here. Please help.
