A bit complicated - How do I work this out - Any hope?

Post by princeayo » Tue Mar 10, 2009 2:34 pm

The brief background:

My parents came to UK from Nigeria in the 70s and during that time they came as tourists (I guess) but they overstayed and during that time managed to have NI numbers, work, study and have children (2 who are now British Citzens). Things were good in Nigeria, so we went back and stayed there permanently.

Until we, the children decided to come back after 20 years. We have been here for a while now and we do not have any problems, except, we would like our mum to be able to live with one of us here in the UK without restriction. Mum has visited twice now on a Visitors' Visa, she was granted 6 months 1st time, and now she has been granted 2 years (I am told that even with two years she cannot spend more than 6 months at a time).

Not long after parents returned to Nigeria in 1983, the family broke down so my mum never really depended on my dad (or vice versa) so now that my dad is deceased it is quite difficult to claim that we are her only source of income because she is widowed, as she has some pension coming in for her and we have other brothers and sisters based in Nigeria.

My questions:

Is there any way we could have our mum come live with us in UK without any restrictions?

If this is possible, how can we go about it?

And lastly, is it true that with a 2 year visitors visa, she cannot stay for more than 6 months at a time in UK?

Thanks all
