Schengen Visa question

Post by Andre2000 » Sat Mar 28, 2009 12:32 pm

Hi,

My wife has a 2 year spouse visa (she is Kenyan), I am a British national.

We wanted to go to Paris for a few days so we need Schengen visa for my wife. I have all the info except one thing. On the French embassy's website it states:

"If you live in one of the counties cited below, you may apply for your visa by postal application, even if your passport is submitted to consultation:"

However I live in Bromley Kent still a London borough, it also states:

"If your county is not listed above, your application will be returned to you without being processed. You will then need to book an appointment to apply for your visa." I tried to book an appointment online but none are available. So my only option is through the postal system.
http://www.ambafrance-uk.org/Postal-application.html

If I send my documents via post my only option right now it seems they would be returned as my county (Kent) is not listed, this seems to be wrong.

Can anyone shed any light?

It's quite plain - ur app will be returned unprocessed since you don't live in one of the area that can apply via post.

You need to allow enough time to book an appointment, if you haven't to be honest the French Consulate won't care....

Just to clarify, I can get a schengen visa from the german embassy and then take my trip to Paris directly? I have no intention of visiting Germany in the near future.

Thanks for your replies

Schengen rules require you to either apply to the country of main destination (longest stay) or to the country of first entry if the days of stay cannot be determined beforehand. You may be able to get a visa from Germany the first time but if you will not use it to go there they may refuse you to give another one next time. Note, I don't know how correct the Germans are in this respect. The French definitely are.

Talk about unapologetic non-compliance!

Why not just apply to the embassy of the country you plan to visit?

Well I am going to France however it would seem I am not allowed to send in postal applications due to being out of the designated counties ( I live in Kent), also when I try to get an appointment via their site it seems there are none. https://www.consulfrance-londres.org/se ... vices3.php

Thanks for all your replies, I will try to get a visa from the German embassy though it seems they require more documentation ie: Medical Insurance.

Hi Kashiff,

I spoke with the German embassy and they tell me I have to make an appointment as my wife has never been to Germany in the past. We were hoping to go within the next month and do all this via the postal system.

Still no option to get a visa from the French embassy as there are no appointments available. This really should be easier than this!!!

but he's planning to use a German Schengen to travel only to France. Dodgy I would have thought. The French consulate website updates their appontments daily, just keep dipping in there and you'll be lucky and they do get cancellations. You're much safer going to France on a French Schengen. I wouldn't take a risk of being refused entry and spoiling your holiday.

Hi Good people

I know some us us are struggling with finances and some can't even get a job until they get a decision with their passports from the HO. Therefore, it is EXPENSIVE calling those 0870/0845xxxxxxxxx numbers that the Home office generally provides.
Don't give up, now you can call Home Office for free, just check out www.saynoto0870.com and you will be provided with a local 0208/0151/0161xxxxxx number where you can contact HO for FREE! The actual number is 01516725626. (But log on to www.saynoto0870.com and confirm for yourself)
Especially if you have a pay monthly home or mobile telephone contract. You can still call from a pay as you go mobile but the charge rate will be like you are calling your neighbour next door on any 0208xxxxxxxx number.
Good luck Razz
