Unmarried partner visa

Post by mpctc » Thu Apr 09, 2009 11:22 pm

I am trying to get my head around the rules for an unmarried partner visa. I understand that you have to prove 2 years together. How can you do that if she is overseas? Does that mean I have to go and live with her for 2 years in her country before she can apply? That sounds pretty nuts to me

Sounds commonsense to me.

I am under the same catch 22 and we are expecting a child soon. I have lived with her in her country, but only for a year and even then how am I to prove it, we lived in rented accommodation without contract.
It seems so backwards considering the ease of certain others with no connection to the uk manage to get visa here, typical of the UK system letting the UK citizens down again.

I have an unmarried partner visa, which I was able to get only after my partner and I had lived together consecutively for two years - this meant providing numerous joint bank statements, tenancy agreements, etc.
We had attempted to apply after having been together for two years (and living together for one of these two years), but we were told not to bother even applying until we had lived together for two consecutive years.
The good news is, once you have done this, it is relatively straightforward. We were told within two days that we had been approved, and it seems that all they really cared about was us proving that we had lived together for the required amount of time.
Good luck!
