Am I British Citizenship otherwise than by descent?

Post by Clam » Wed Apr 15, 2009 11:54 am

Is it possible that I am British Citizenship otherwise than by descent?

I hope someone can can answer this for me. I need to extablish this to determine my child's status, who was born in Holland 3 months ago.

My farther born in Hong kong emmigrated to the UK in the 1950's. I was born in 1962 in Hong Kong and joined my farther in 1970. At some point in the 70's I have obtained British citizenship. My farther was not natualised (as far as I know, also I do not know by what mechanisim that he has obtained his Citizenship). Am I correct to think that he could not have passed on his British Citizenship to me? And if this is the case, what does it make me? By descent or otherwise?

Thanks

I just went through all of my old passports an obtained the following facts:

My first passport was a British HONG KONG passport issued in 1971 (expires in 1976). The National Status indicated to be ‘British Subject Citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies’. It contains a stamped Entry Certificate to UK with ‘To accompany mother to join farther’ written on (so my entry to UK is 1971 not 1970 mistakenly on my last post). This same passport was renewed with a stamp in 1977 (with new photo) with the line ‘HOLDER HAS THE RIGHT OF ABODE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM’ deliberately added.

My next passport issued in 1982 was a “BRITISH PASSPORT – UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELANDâ€
