Applying for extension 12 months before expire?

Hi All,

One of my friend said that one of his friend applied for extension 12 months before the expire of his current visa and he got the extension starting from the date of expire of the previous visa.

Ex: HSMP from Jan 2008 till 2010
Applied for extension Jan 2009 and received extension from 2010 till 2013.

I have not seen this type of case earlier in this forum.
I am not able to believe this (with my limited knowledge on Tier 1)
is this possible???

Not heard of extension before 12 months but members in this forum have got extension before 10 months. You can search the forum.
