Does 1yr SEGS Residency status counts towards......

Post by jay09 » Thu Apr 30, 2009 10:56 am

My people,

For someone who was granted 1 yr residence extension under the SEGS (formerly IGS) and is now on a work permit. Does the 1 yr spent as a SEGS candidate counts towards the 5 yrs required for the ILR.

Your thoughts please.

cheers

No it doesn't count as a year on a work permit.

Hi there

Hope my reply isn't too late.

I'm probably in the same boat as you are but i do think it actually counts as a work permit as its a different type of work permit.
I know the previous post said it doesn't count but I've had other people confirm to me.
Can you make your findings public on this block so that i'll get to know what it is?
Thanks

May be people in the legal field should through more light on this for us please. My first thought was that it counts, but on the contrary, some people have said that it doesn't. May be when i get my passport back from the HO i will be able to know if they have considered it before deciding on the remaining number of years that i need before i can apply for ILR.

Will kepp you posted.

The only thing SEGS will count towards is 10 year Long residency

It will count in 10 years ILR but not in 5 years ILR...
