Immigration Lawyers - success??

Has anyone been successful with using an immigration firm/lawyer or with the services of Immigration Advisory Service?

I need representation for my visa issue and need to decide on a lawyer within the next day...

it's complicated - applied for IGS extension in January, HO sent letter confirming payment but credit card company actually blocked application fee for security reasons; HO marked app as invalid due to transaction declined and returned with option to resubmit but sent to wrong correspondence address. Has been lost in post for over 3 months, my visa expired in that time, and now I've 'overstayed' my leave thinking my app was just in process...

need to resubmit but want representation to ensure success

Could you explain the bit about sent to the wrong correspondence address a bit further?

Was it because there was an error on your part, on the part of the UKBA or on the part of Roal Mail?

HO used my home address rather than the specified correspondence address - for which I also enclosed a pre-addressed Special Delivery envelope to be used for any returned documents/visa/etc.

Royal Mail attempted 1 delivery according to markings on envelope (24/1), made no further attempts and the envelope was not returned to HO after no one (I) claimed it. Second marking on envelope was dated 21/4 by royal mail as 'unclaimed' and it somehow made it to my work address (the correspondence address) on 27/4 (the envelope came opened so I assume RM opened to find a deliverable address).

Over that time I assumed my visa was in process based on the initial letter from HO that stated application was received and payment cleared, but current visa exp end Jan. So I thought status carried over until new visa received, and HO had marked application as invalid until new payment made... no refusal, no acceptance - just limbo.

Dude don't go to the Immigration Advisory Service. They are curretly conducting my case but depply regret as they do not show real simpathy for your case and don't go the extra mile in order to assist you. You gotta be chasing them all the time to get things done; are unhelpful and rude.

Yeah I went the other day for an initial chat and the woman kept leaving the office because she didn't know what to say about my case. I had to pay for the 30 minutes of 'advice' and she was out of the room for 20 of them! Then offered to take it on. She was sympathetic but I didn't get the impression my case would have full attention or the right advice!

My friend chose IAS for to represent him in court after his PSW refusal.

He was not happy with the way it was all done and he lost in court.

Try to represent yourself if you can or consult someone who knows the game.

No one know your case more than you.. If u have spare money and time then go with the lawyer BUT they will not do any good for u. Represent yourself properly, believe in yourself and u can win...

considering the complexity of my situation, I wouldn't want to represent myself and risk refusal now, plus any chance at re-entering the country in the near future.

I don't have spare money, but this lawyer came highly recommended by a good friend (who is also a lawyer) so I think it will be the best way forward.

As long as u r happy with the lawyer its fine buddy.. i know some situations are very complex but not complex then your brain... Anyways hope for the best....
