self-employed earnings

Post by yunhao » Fri May 15, 2009 6:32 pm

I am going to apply T1 under salaried+self-employed. I've got all the documents required for my salaried earning.

I started my business from last September. I registed as self-employment and am the only director. I get 200 pounds net pay by cash every week and dividents. I am worried i didn't pay in my weekly wage to my bank account so I am not able to provide my bank statement as a proof for my self-employment earning.

I've spoke to my accountant. They can provide the business accounts statement and the letter regarding to the requirement as HO guidance. Also they are preparing my income tax return recently. I am wondering can I provide any tax document without bank statement to claim points of my self employment earnings(from september to april) ? If I can what the tax document should be?self-assessment statement? And is it enough to just provide accounts statement and letter from accountant and tax document as earning proof?

Many thanks,

You need to provide two form of evidence each from different source.

1. Payslips, Employee Letter, P60, Accountant Letter, Dividend Vouchers are all considered under same source.

2. The other source is Bank Statement.

If you pay yourself everyweek by Cheque, you can show the cheque deposit entry of your bank statement along with the payslips(or accountant letter or employer letter). Also since you mentioned Dividends, are you paying yourself dividend by cheque or by BACS. In either case you can use that as well to prove your earnings.

Hi,
thanks for ur reply. I am wondering is it OK to provide Income tax return and self assessment statement as proof of another source(HMRC) cos my bankstatement can't show my earnings from self-employed properly.

thanks for your help.

Self assessment form is not a valid proof. Also Tax return document is considered as source from your employer.
Besides Tax return document does not provide much info about your earnings.

Hi chetanojha,
Thanks again!
Do you thinks is there any other document can be considered as an earning proof from tax authority? According to the Guidance, an official tax document is accepted.

"official tax document produced by the tax authority – this is a document produced by a person, business or company as an official return to a tax authority showing details of earnings on which tax has been paid or will be paid in a tax year. The document must have been approved, registered or stamped by the tax authority. "

Thanks a lot!

Should I ask HRMC to write a letter shown

two pices of evidence are required:

Payslips OR accountant letter OR emplyer letter OR p60 OR dividend vouchers OR annual accounts OR draft accounts etc

AND

Bank statements OR A letter from HMRC confirming your earnings for the last tax year..

After you receive your P60 from your employer/accountant then call your tax office to request for your statement of account. If they had already received the copy of your P60 from your employer/accountant. HMRC can send you a letter/document confirming your details as per your P60. (This letter can be used as a tax return document)

Infect P60 is internally issued by the employer. A copy is given to employee and the other copy goes to HMRC. Therefore P60 is considered to be issued by the employer not by the HMRC.

If HMRC has received the copy of you P60 from your employer/accountat then they will not hesitate at all in issuing you a new letter which will back up details on your P60.... Hope this clarifies this P60 and tax return saga....

My friends there is no easy way of getting Tier 1. Only genuine people can get Tier 1 now.

IN SHORT TIER 1 CAN NOT BE ACHEIVED IN THE ABSENCE OF BANK STATEMENT AND TAX RETURN DOCUMENT ISSUED DIRECTLY BY HMRC. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY OF THESE TWO DOCUMENTS THEN NO TIER 1.
