Belated wedding gifts and Spouse visa funds?

Post by Pazz » Fri May 29, 2009 5:25 am

Hi.

My husband and I have just received $4000 as a belated wedding gift for our September 2008 wedding from his parents. It was deposited into our account as a 'surprise', however its the same account that we are using for my visa funds.

I'm worried now that it is going to look suspicious when we apply for the visa in August. I do have a wedding card from them which we received on our wedding day with an I.O.U inside it and they have offered to write a letter explaining the deposit, why it was so late (they were having financial troubles when we were married and have only just come out of them), and they've said they'll get it notorized etc. But I'm not sure if this will help at all.

I feel like they've unwittingly thrown a spanner in the works so to speak and I'm really quite worried about it. After all, we are planning on applying for the visa in August so we can leave in November, and so the deposit will absolutely show up on our bank statements.

Also, on another funds issue. We are selling our car in the next month as we no longer need it. Can we deposit that money into the UK visa funds account without suspicion if we provide a receipt for its sale etc?

Thanks for any and all help.

I think you need to tell us your personal circumstances, for example whose applying for visa, what visa, and where from. How much you have in your account minus the above amount, where you currently reside etc, before we can tell you what the best soloution would be.

Depositing of large amounts of money just before applying for a visa, is one of the main reasons for refusal. Whilst I accept your reasons might be valid, I dont think the ECO will look at it that way.

I mean had you won the lottery for example and can prove it , or had you cashed in some bonds, shares etc and could provide evidence, then that's fine, but the reasons you have given can not be verified, and I belive your story will raise doubts in the mind of the ECO, and once they have those, then they are in their rights to refuse your visa.

I thought as much. I wish they'd have let me know before doing this :(

I guess taking the money out of the account won't help much now that it will come up on the bank statement. I guess I'll have to figure out some way to resolve this and hope it doesn't result in a refusal.

Thanks

any large deposits would need explaining in you letter of support,, but it doesn't look good to me, becuase if you didn't receive the 'surprise' money. what was you going to use to show you have finances to support your visa app?
:(

it is possibe to get a visa without savings, but you increase your risks of refusal without savings..

do you work ? if you had a good padi job that would help
