British Citizenship:: HSMP :: Spouse

Post by rob.mehta » Tue Jun 23, 2009 5:51 pm

Dear All,

I have had this ILR approved a week back. Now I am looking forward to my citizenship.

I wonder what is the procedure for citizenship application for the spouse. Is it similar to the ILR where she applies as dependent

or first I would need to become a citizen and then my wife+daughter can become apply (apply separately for citizenship as spouse of citizen).

My wife been in UK from June 2006 and I plan to apply in June 2010.

Thanks in advance.

Rgds

Robin.

You all three can apply for naturalisation /Citizenship at the same time in June 2010. You & your wife need to fill form "AN" seperately and "MN1" form for your daughter. I would suggest you to apply through NCS

Thanks for your reply. The guide and the form says that either you have lived here for 5 years or are a spouse of a citizen and lived here for 3 years. So this implies my wife needs to wait either for 2011 or for me to be granted british citizenship. Am I missing something?

You got it right mate. Once you are granted citizenship then your wife will be able to apply as spouse of BC and she will be assessed on 3years instead

Spouse naturalisation

Post by peejay » Fri Jun 26, 2009 3:29 pm

Hi F2k,
I have a similar situation. I am applying for my naturalisation in Aug 09 but wife is not eligible till march 10. So once I get my citizenship, does my wife need to do anything on her visa as a wife of british citizen rather than HSMp dependant? Obviously we both are on ILR now.

Thanks

Peejay

If your wife has ILR, you don't need to do anything. You apply for naturalization first and once that is approved apply for your wife with a three year residency period.

Rob

As stated before, you and your wife cannot apply for naturalization at the same time. You can either wait till 2011 when she has five year residency to apply together or apply yourself first and once naturalized apply immediately for your wife as she has met three year residency criteria.
