"Master of Arts" from University of Cambridge

Post by romkyns » Sat Jun 27, 2009 11:47 pm

Hi all!

Does anyone know whether the "Master of Arts" degree from Cambridge is considered a Master's degree as far as the points calculator is concerned? This degree is awarded automatically to everyone who received a BA 6 years after the date the study commenced (described on wikipedia - http://tinyurl.com/csvy3z). I could not find a single clear answer on this anywhere.

Also, the calculator doesn't list the year of award 2009 (middle of 2009 already!) - does that mean that none of the 2009-awarded degrees qualify or what?...

Many thanks!

Is it there in the point based calculator? (for years say 2008/07?). Do you guys actually get a physical degree certificate or is it just deemed that you are a Masters in Arts 6 years after the start date of your BA course?
Re-2009, it would be good if you sent an email to UKBA; Generally degrees in UK are awarded around Sept - but thats no reason for them to not update the PBS calculator.

There isn't one that says exactly "Master of Arts", or "MA", but then there isn't one for "MSc" or "MEng" etc either. There is just one that says "Master's degree". Note that this is selected /before/ the university, so this list can't be university-specific.

Yes, it is exactly the same as the BA certificate, only says "the degree of Master of Arts". The only difference is that no extra studying or exams are needed.

I think you can claim points for Masters.
