Getting Married, what doc's needed for wife's visa please...

Dear forum members,
I shall be geting married next year.
I wanted to know if someone could let me know which form she has to fill in.
I hold an HSMP visa.
Anybody who is married could you let me know please.

After the marriage your wife (as she will be) will need to submit a form VAF1 application form .. to come to the UK as your dependent.

I believe that is for claiming spouse points during HSMP application process. The topic now is about getting the wife to UK in a "post HSMP" marriage scenario. I think we need to just apply for a dependent visa.

Kumi, indeed so. "ukpermit", if your suggestion is that someone has got to be married for two years before their spouse qualifies for a dependent visa, then I have to say ... not so. If your comment has been misunderstood then please explain what you mean.

FYI, if you are in the UK under immigration control (have a HSMP visa and EC) you must apply for a Certificate of Approval for marriage. Yes, it's weird to have to ask permission to get married, but now you have to do this.

That only applies if the marriage is to take place in the UK. However I think it is clear that this particular marriage will happen overseas, following which his wife (as she will be) will apply for a dependant's visa. Accordingly there is no need to apply for a CoA.

That is, there is no mention in this topic of her applying for a fiancée visa and then coming to the UK.

yes, kumi was right. just apply as a dependant. but i think the yunger marrige the more risks, isnt it?

Dear John,
You got it right. The marriage is taking place in my home country and the girl as well is from home country, so I need not take permission from HO for my marriage.
So just need to fill up the VAF form.
But a practical question here is,
1) Does my would be wife need to change her surname to mine in her passpoert and then apply for her visa or a marriage certficate with a VAF form is good enough ?

Bhardwaj, under UK law there is no legal requirement for a woman to change her surname on marriage. It is merely a convention that most seem to follow.

It therefore follows that it really is not an issue whether or not your wife changes her surname. I think just make sure that the "passport name" and the applicant name on the form VAF1 are the same.

That means if surname on the passport of my wife and on the VAF form are the same that should be good enough.
Does she need to take my passport as well for the visa interview.
