Advice on Career choice after Approval of HSMP

Post by buntosanya » Wed Sep 14, 2005 7:17 pm

Hi All,

Please i need advise on the issue of the kind of Job that must be done when one gets to UK.

I have not gotten my approval yet, but i intend to change my career when i eventually get to UK. I have 11 years experience in a Bank in Nigeria and 2 years experience after that as a Treasury Management Consultant.

I have interest in Social Work as a Career. I have gone ahead to enrol in 2 Online Colleges in UK offering Vocational courses at NVQ3 and NVQ4 level, because i gathered that i cannot enrol in a University for degree in Social Work except i work in Social Care environment. The courses are to enable me be at an advantage in getting a Social Care job in UK.

The issue here is, i just read the moderator note that one cannot do any job outside the work experience that was used to claim points at the approval stage.

Qualifications B.A.Ed English, Pgd. Management

Please is there anybody out there that has gotten his/her HSMP Extension that can advise on this issue. It might be from personal or related experiences. Thank you. :( :?

I doubt that it is a requirement to work in the exact field that you qualified for under HSMP, for one, you are merely asked on the renewal form to indicate the industry that you job falls in, if I remember correctly. Previous posts indicate that even persons who work in unskilled jobs still get renewals. I indicated that I would be working in Accounting on my application but I think I put IT as the industry my job falls in on my extension form as the job I was doing fell into that sector and it was not a problem. The important thing seems to be that yuou are economically active, without recoursae to public funds.
