Spouse Visa - Sufficient funds & Accomodation question..

Post by leginj » Mon Jul 06, 2009 2:37 pm

Hi all,

I found this forum very helpful and am posting this hoping that someone
here will be able to point me at the right direction.

I am a British Citizen applying for a spouse/dependent visa for my Indian wife.

Regarding sufficient funds,

1) How much is sufficient funds? I see that most of the posts are for Tier 1 & Tier 2 dependents.. Is this different for British Nationals.? Also, should I've maintained this balance over a period of time.. (3 months??)
(Any official guidance link for the above will be greatly appreciated)

2) I'll be moving into a new address and have recently signed tenency agreement.. So all my bills and bank statements are from the old address.. Will this be okay? Will a letter explaining the same be enough?

Thanks in advance...

You need to show that you have a minimum of £100.25 left a week after paying rent or mortgage, utility bills and council tax. You don't need include food or personal spending.
It won't matter that you have recently moved to a new address.

Whilst I agree with what Casa has said, I have known many people from Indian subcontinent who have been refused because of lack of funds in their bank when they are sponsoring their spouse.

Whilst the £100.25 is the amount that a couple needs to live on in the UK, a decent amount of money in the bank at the time of the application would greatly assist your spouse application form.

I would say a figure of between £2000- to £3500 accumulated in your bank over the last 12 months or so would be ideal. You will need to provide at least 6 months bank statement that will hopefully show this.

If you work and have a decent wage going into your account, and after all the expenses, you still can save money (and show it)means you will be not dependant on others ( as you have some savings) if something unfortunate befalls you in the future.

The rules for Tier 1&2 are different to a spouse visa, so ignore those.

Your point No 2. don't worry about this, it should be ok.

Remember you will also need 3 months wage slips, letter from your employers, tennancy agreement, housing report to support your wife's application.

Hope this has answered your query

And you both have to be over 21 at the time of application.
