Science and Engineering Graduates

Post by Chess » Tue May 11, 2004 1:23 pm

The government is encouraging science and engineering graduates to stay in the UK and work 'permit free' for a year. This scheme is analogous to the MBA scheme

The students are now finishing their exams and some will be graduating next month and early july!

Does any one know whats going on at HO? Should these 'kids' walk straight into jobs or should they complete some documentation from HO?
Where there is a will there is a way.

Good question.... a lot of companies are conducting last round interviews around this time (and a lot have already finished with this year's graduate intake)... so what does a student put in his CV: 'work permit not required'.... or.... 'work permit most probably ont required, at least not for a year'... or any similar variation? :)

I think the HO has been very slow in sorting this scheme out, which IMHO opinion is one of the better ways of controlling immigration (if someone finishes your own top university, surely they have the language/culture/education skills required + they have payed the uni the enormous overseas fees). Hopefully graduates are aware of this scheme, at least those who couldn't secure a work permit yet.

It would be great if the HO could shed some light on this mysterious scheme...

One year experience in the UK is a great chance to add extra weight to CVs! especially if one heading to the US afterwards (based on my brother's experience).

thanx guys for bringing this issue up!

Cheers
