Financial criteria for spouse visa

Post by jennykissenger » Thu Jul 16, 2009 3:16 pm

Could anyone help me clarify exactly how much money and in what form I would need to satisfy Immigration when applying for my American husband to join me in the UK?

Can it be in my or his name, or do we both need a lot?
Are savings and assets acceptable or does it have to be sat in a current account?
Is confirmation of potential family support relevant or do they consider the couple as an isolated unit?

We are planning on getting married in the US this summer while I am on a travel visa then I will return. Do we need to do anything out of the ordinary with regard to the formal wedding process / documentation?

Many thanks

Spouse visa finances - no income

Post by jennykissenger » Fri Jul 17, 2009 7:57 am

Vinnie thank for directing me to those links.

Although I have been working for the last 6 years since University, I will be a full time student again on a one year MA course when applying for the spouse visa for my partner.

I have enough money to fund myself entirely through this but obviously I will not be able to show any evidence of income.
If an income of 24,000 a year is considered a safe bet, if I can show through bank statements that I have 48,000 to my name will that do, or is this application going to be automatically harder because I won't be employed?

Many thanks
