Passport/visa expiry date

Post by joy_kavee » Sat Jul 18, 2009 12:27 pm

hi

can someone apply for visa entension for 2 years when their passport expires in 6 months?

Can we apply for the visa on the old passport and then have the visa on the new passport?

what is the official home office stand on this?

Yes you can use your existing passport to get extesnsion stamping. When you get your new passport, you still be having your old passport with you. So you dont need to have new stamping on your new passport

and you would have the option to get the VISA transferred to your ew passport if you want to avoid the hassle of carrying two passports around.

I have 2 passports with following detail
1. Previous Passport (Expired and Canceled by Authority and have no visa stamped on it)
2. Fresh Passport (Valid and have visa stamped on it)

With the T1 application I sent both, but do I need to accompany the old one with me wherever I need to show the passport? Or just the visa stamped passport will be fine?

You need the one with Visa stamped on it. No need to carry old/expired passport unless you have valid visa stamped on it.
