Please provide guidance for the below query:

I want to apply for Tier 1 General (skilled worker)visa category in first week of August 09.

Please provide guidance for the below query:

My degree is recognized in the NARIC database but 10 points of English is not showing in the point based assessment form. In this case can I submit a letter from my university stating that the medium of instructions was in English.

Presuming you are checking for your Masters Degree, as an alternative, you can submit the letter from degree Awarding body i.e. University along with your application.

One more option would be since you have got Masters degree, i presume you also completed Bachelors Degree, in that case please chcek if you Bachlors degree+University+Course is listed in the PBS Calculator and if it does exsist there then you can utilize those points for English... Goodluck

I think his Degree is recognised but 10 points for English language is not awarded by the PBS calculator.

On the second thought Sandeepak, are you selecting option(checkbox) to use the same degree for English Calculations while calculating poings?

Chethan - i understood his mail tht his Master's degree is recognised for educational points but 10points are not allocated for English language so i am recommending here to use his master's degree for educational points and Bachelors degree for english points if thye are recognised.. hope i am in line with the answer required for the question;

is it making 'any'/'some' sense??

Given the information in the initial post, I have presumed he tried his degrees(including bachelors and masters) though member never mentioned which degree he tried in the calculator..hence adviced him below:

English requirement

Post by sandeepak » Sat Jul 25, 2009 9:31 am

Dear,

This is the snapshot of UKBA asessment form:

Choose Add another to search the qualifications database again to add a new qualification to the table.
Country of study State Qualification Institution Length of course Subject Grade Year of award Points for English language Select
India Karnataka Bachelor degree Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore 4 years or less than 5 Pharmacy 2001 0

India Karnataka Master's degree Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore 2 years or less than 3 Pharmacy 2006 0

In this form Radio button is not clicking So please give your valuable suggestion that I should prepare for IELTS or there is other option to qualify for 10 points of English requirement.

Thanks & Regards

I tried selecting the same qualifications and it is not working.Other option is to get a letter from your Degree Awarding Body i.e. University, that your medium of instruction was in English. This will work as an evidence. You can also appear for IELTS.

I dont think its possible. How would you prove:
189. The degree must:
• be recognised by National Academic Recognition Information Centre for the United Kingdom (UK NARIC) as equivalent to at least a United Kingdom Bachelor’s degree; and

• have been taught in English to a standard comparable to that of level C1 on the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR). Details can be found on the Council of Europe website at http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/linguistic/CADRE_EN.asp.

Guess I didn't understood the question. I provided letter from my University stating my qualifying Bachelor's Degree was taught in english and it was accept.

Clearly, the degree is recognised by NARIC/PBS as I can see it in the PBS calculator.

That rule was under old HSMP. They have now inserted this further criteria.

I am still thinking about the Letter from your University. Insert one additional statement in the letter that degree was taught in English comparable to the Level C1 on the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR). Though I cannot open the link provide above from guidelines.

But I am not sue whether your university will issue such certificate. In that case IELTS would be the only option left.

I dont think the University will be able to provide such a certificate. IELTS or other prescribed test are the answer.

Dear Experts,

I am new to this group and planning for Tier 1.

My Question is regarding the Medium of Instuction only.

My Post Graduate Education is from Distance Education and it is there in the points based calculator & it is also there in the Degree taught in English one in Point based calculator. I am able to selet my PG Degree in both my Qualification & Degree taught in English in the PBS and PBS has awarded me points for both.

For your info. My Graduation is from Hindi Medium. I am already holding a Work Permit and in UK.

Still I have to produce Medium of Instruction letter from the University.

Please advice me.

Thanks
Bharat

As you say your Degree and qualification both are recognised by the PBS system and when you select them they are awarding points for Both (Educational opints and English Points)..

in that case you do not need to submit again seperate letter from university.. you jus tneed to enclose the PBS Summary sheet..

No that is not mandatory. Many colleges I know only do Masters and are still listed in PBS list.
