Do companies prefer Tier 1 (General) than dependent visa?

Post by rohitktm » Mon Jul 27, 2009 10:10 am

Dear Friends,
I am planning to move to London soon and have some queries regarding the visa system of UK. My wife is planning to pursue her master in London and as a dependent I am getting full time work permit of UK. How easy is it to get job with this type of visa? What is specific name of this type of visa? Do companies prefer Tier 1 (General) –High Skilled visa holder than dependent visa full time work permit visa? I assessed my eligibility for Tier 1 visa and I found I have enough points for this.
Just to let you know, I have MBA from Webster and Master in ERP Systems (SAP) from Australia. I am also SAP certified consultant. I will be looking for SAP Graduate position in London.
I would highly appreciate your guidance on this.

There is no problem if you have Tier-1(General) visa. But in the current market situation it depends on your skillset and luck.
Main applicants generally have upper hand in getting job and they do not have dependency for visa renewal.
If would advice you to have Tier-1 (General)visa so that you wife can do her studies while you can work(or find work).

Yes, in some cases. When my wife was looking for a job on HSMP Dependent, she was refused a few times stating that their company policy doesnt allow depends to be hired. so if you have an option of getting Tier 1, just get that.

Theoretically HSMP dependant has same rights as the main applicant. Many of my friends/their spouses are working on dependant VISAs and have not mentioned that they faced any probs. If you are a good fit for the company, all they need to verify is the eligibility of the candidate to work in UK. As far as renewal of VISA is concerned, the chances of renewal for a dependant are as good or bad as those of the main applicant.
