Advice on Employment

Post by rajesh.capri » Sun Oct 09, 2005 8:27 am

Hi All,

I would need wise counsel of all with experience in landing a job in UK.

I am 34 yrs old from India.

I have diverse background with career spanning across different industries and roles.

I started my career in direct selling for Standard Chartered Bank in Mumbai, India for 3 years.

Next moved to Space Selling for 9 months for local yellow pages company.

Next I worked as frontline customer servicing and account manager for Digital media company into creating CDs and Websites.

Next I was Operations and Account Head for another digital Media company, which was not only involved in above but also in corporate films.

Currently I am Operations manager for a call centre looking after various processes.

What would be my job market?

How soon can I land a good job in London? (thats the place where I plan to stay)

I am open to taking any odd/temporary job and have no problem begining my career in UK from scratch.

I have got good and reliable feedback from all earlier too.

I look forward to sincere and guiding reply from all.

Thanking you in advance for all the advice.

regards
Rajesh

P.S: I am coming to UK with my wife and kids under students visa and I am depent spouse as my wife is the student.

Dear Rajesh

As I understand from your posting that you are not coming here on HSMP but as a dependent spouse of a student giving you right to do full time work. If your visa is for more than one year than you may stand a better chance than an HSMP holder in the 1st year of HSMP. (In my 1st year of HSMP I have seen this happen). Also you have the right attitude of being willing to work in lower jobs as this will be the case for all new entrants to UK job market irrespective of experience and standing in home country. You may have to start in a customer service / counter job and move up depending on how fast you learn and pick up. Also the cost of living is extremely high compared to wages in entry level jobs especially for someone with a family.
