apply for visa in UK. possible?

Post by hmm » Mon Aug 10, 2009 2:03 pm

We were going to apply for a dependent settlement visa for my mother in law from India. I'm going to go over there towards end of the year and I was going to take her over to the British embassy. She doesn't have anybody there and can't go anywhere outside her town on her own, embassy is 5 hour drive from her place. Her husband used to take her every where but he passed away last year. her health condition is getting worse. So we'd like to apply for her visa ASAP but due to job commitment, expensive travel we can't go over there before Christmas. We've all the paper works ready and confident she'd get the visa on compasinate ground.

Also, somebody needs to be with her when submitting the application because she gets nervous and get into panic mode when she has to do something official on her own. never had to deal with anything like that while her husband was alive. I spoke to the embassy they said only the applicant is allowed inside to submit the application. That's our worry too!!!

Is there any way to apply from here in the UK? so we can submit the application on her behalf.

Any advise on what should we do?

WOW! Not many people can say that about this particular type of application. The threshold is incredibly high (especially if the applicant is under 65).

Applicant is under 65 so need to show she is living in most exceptional compasinate circumtances. That's the difficult bit because the guidances very vague. Not sure what ECO expects.
Satisfy all the other requirements and have paper works to show it.
We've done the home work and prepared as much as we can. Now looking for a good solicitor who has deal with such cases, just incase it gets rejected.

I know people applied for family reunion in the past to the Homeoffice for their elderly parents back home. It is kind of a family re-union too. so why can't we?. May be that's now changed too.
