Irish Visa reuirements for non-EU residents in the UK

Post by vimeni » Thu Oct 13, 2005 7:05 pm

Hi,

I am a Indian citizen living in the UK as permanent resident for the last 9 years i.e. indefinate leave to remain in the UK.

I intend to visit Republic of Ireland for one week as tourist.

Please could someone help me to find out if non-EU UK permanent residents require a visitir visa for short visit. The port of entry is Dublin, arrving from London.

Many thanks for the help.

I think the answer to your question is given by :-

Do I need a visa to come to Ireland?

You will see that India is not on that list, so yes, a visa will be required by you.

The fact that you have UK ILR makes no difference to that Irish requirement. However it confirms to the Irish Embassy in London that you can make your application for the visa in London rather than back in India.

Of course if you had applied for and got naturalised as British then you would not need a visa to go to Ireland. I see that this is your first post on this Board. Lots of discussions here from people of Indian origin on the implications of obtaining British Citizenship and the effect that has on Indian Citizenship. It seems that recent changes in Indian law are helping.
