Migration Advisory Committee publishes report on points-base

Post by confusedhsmp » Wed Aug 19, 2009 12:30 pm

New report published with some guidance on future changed to Tier system, mainly Tier 2:

http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/siteco ... dependants

Important bits for Tier 1 Summary form document dated April :

NOTE: THIS IS EXTRACT FROM OLD REPORT BY MAC! AND WE (Tier 1 General) ARE AWAITING THEIR RECOMENDATION ON THESE TO COME BY OCTOBER.

"4.14 For General Tier 1 an increase in the points awarded for a PhD under
the qualifications requirement could target the most highly skilled immigrants.
Another option is to change the qualifications requirement to limit points
scored to degrees in certain subjects. This could, for example, target sectors
deemed to be of strategic importance. Alterations to the duration of leave to
enter or remain could also be made in a similar way for particular subjects of
qualification"

AND

4.20 It is important to know where Tier 1 immigrants work and if any abuse
is taking place, such as Tier 1 workers working in low-skilled occupations. We
will also need to address the balance between the numbers of immigrants
entering through the different routes and especially the balance between the
Post-study work and general routes.

Also

General route: How, if at all, should the points and/or leave to enter or
remain entitlements be adjusted or changed in 2010/11 to respond to
current and future changes in economic and labour market conditions?.........................

• In what sectors do Tier 1 workers who have entered through the
General and Post-Study work routes work and why?

NOW ON DEPENDANTS OF TIER CATEGORIES!

6.10 It is thus legislatively possible to attach conditions to the stay or
employment rights of dependants of PBS immigrants. Any such conditions
would need to be catered for by amending Part 8 of the Immigration Rules. This section caters for family members of relevant PBS immigrants..................

Is there a case for linking the PBS points awarded to the main applicant
positively to the skill levels of dependants?
