B1 issued in India, but travelling from London

Post by hsmp_1476 » Wed Aug 19, 2009 4:18 pm

Hi, I am an Indian citizen. I used to work in India and my Indian employer had sponsored my B1 visa. It is a 10 year visa, with out any annotations on it mentioning the Indian company's name. I have never travelled to US on that or any other visa.

Recently I shifted to UK and now my current employer wants me to visit US for a week for a conference. Can I use the same B1 visa that I got from India?

Thanks
Vikram

No such thing as a "sponsor" for a B visa... once you have it, you have it.

Thanks mate. Is there a way to contact the US embassy in London (not that I dont believe you, but its best to have an official confirmation to avoid any problems during travel)? I know they have a phone number with ridiculous rates, but something in writing (like an email) would be a lot better I think.

Thanks
Vikram

Contact the embassy about what? They don't offer an immigration advice service. Even if they did it would be useless, since a) admission is decided by CBP (Customs and Border Protection) while the embassy is run by the State department, b) you cannot rely on anything told you by a government official, even in writing.

You can use the same B1 visa, it makes absolutely no difference who you are working for now. Admission will be up to the POE inspectors.
